Interview with Austin Davies

May 29, 2017

The Niagara Raiders have partnered with the Brock University Masters of Professional Kinesiology Program for our weekly Positional Evaluation Camp. Our two Masters students will be working with our players up until the end of training camp. Recently our Raiders staff caught up with Masters student Austin Davies to learn more about what he hopes to bring to the Raiders.

Where is your Hometown?

Moncton, NB

Where did you complete your undergraduate degree?

Brock University

Why did you choose Brock University for your graduate education?

I chose Brock University partly due to it’s renown Kinesiology program in Canada, but also because I felt as if it could be “a home away from home”. I loved the spirit of the tour leaders and students that I experienced during the first campus tour and I was instantly drawn to the surrounding scenery of the Niagara Escarpment that Brock University was nestled on.

Why did you choose to study Kinesiology?

I’ve always had an interest in science and sport, and Kinesiology was the program that could bridge the two interests together into one. Kinesiology has opened me to many experiences and opportunities that I had not imaged, and I look forward to the future as I look to become a Physiotherapist.

What do you hope to bring to the Niagara Raiders?

I hope to bring my knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics to observe and assess the movement requirements of positional athletes of the Niagara Raiders. Following the analysis, I will provide accurate exercise prescription to enhance the movement efficiency of the athletes. Additionally, I will bring my hands-on clinical skills to assess muscle tightness and joint range of motion to promote injury prevention and keep the athletes healthy throughout the 2017 season.

Hobbies/Interests?

Throughout the spring and summer months, I occupy my free time playing fastball with the Jordan Warriors in the Golden Horseshoe Fastball League. When I’m not playing fastball, I love to play pick-up basketball at local facilities, play guitar and experiencing the diverse entertainment and restaurants that the Niagara Region has to offer with my girlfriend.

Positional Evaluation Camp will continue every Tuesday until the beginning of July at the Raiders practice facility in Virgil.
